Born in Washington, DC to parents who migrated from Rwanda. Linda spent time between the US and Rwanda and finally moved to Rwanda permanently to work for Gahaya Links, a company training rural women to produce handicrafts for an international market. Participating in the design and production for pieces carried by international retail chains Anthropologie and Macys strengthened Linda’s belief in the ability to showcase Rwanda in a global market and at the same time empower the girls she works with. From this belief, Haute Baso was born. Although she majored in International Relations at university, her heart had always been in fashion. Currently serves as an Acumen Regional Fellow 2016.
Born in 1991 in Kigali, Odile has lived in Rwanda all her life and is currently in her final year majoring in Finance at the Kigali Independent University. Her passions include helping others, music, movies and praying. By working with haute baso, it strengthens her belief in the importance of developing young women's skills and integrates them in the company's value chain: 'Being independent is key for anyone and for women in particular'. Odile also enjoys working in a creative environment. In the next five years she envisions owning a business focused on helping street children.
Born in Bujumbura in 1992, Vanessa and her parents moved to Kigali where she grew up. She is currently in her third year studying Logistics at Mount Kenya University. She loves traditional Rwandan dance and watching movies. Vanessa is passionate about African culture especially clothing and décor. She also believes in mentorship and coaching as way to empower fellow young rwandans. Working with haute baso allows her to learn more about fashion as well as to use one’s business to have a positive impact on others. Vanessa dreams of starting a business in the Arts sector one day.
Darina was born in 1999 in Burundi and grew up in Rwanda. She is in school. Passionate about art and music in particular, she is thinking of taking a degree in the arts combined with communication or business management and hopefully pursue a career in these fields.She was interested in intern with haute baso because she likes their unique designs, she says « it’s different and I like the idea of 2 heads are better then one ».
